ENDING THE SEASON WITH A BANG

Iftime is money, what does that make hunting season? Unlike many hobbies, hunting is defined to a designated season which makes that time in the field all the more precious.

To close out the 2019/20 season, I invited a friend and his father to come hunt with me in Nevada. It's the last chance to bag birds for the season so the pressure was on!  We hunted 10 miles the first day and got into plenty of birds, there was excellent dog work, lots of shooting and a variety of birds for dinner. The second day was a bit tougher, a 15 mile hike only produced one covey of Chukar yet we still managed to bag a few. Some tired legs, more birds for dinner and more great memories made. But just like that, the season was over.

The end of the hunting season is always bittersweet for me. It's a time that I dread, knowing that I won't be able to chase birds with my dog until the next fall. But it's also a time for me to reflect on our accomplishments together in the season just passed. All that's left is to look forward to a spring and summer training my dog and chasing trout with my fly rod.  - Matt Hardinge
